ESN Uni Turku organises multiple events every week that vary widely in style and theme, from more casual gatherings, game nights and craft-shops to special parties and unique trips and activities. There’s always something new to look forward to, and we love bringing people together through different experiences!
Find out about our upcoming events on our instagram page!
ESN Uni Turku stands for inclusion and wants to ensure a safe and positive environment within all our events! If you have any questions, or if you witnessed or were subject to anything that you would wish to report, do not hesitate to get in touch with us, or to fill a Code of Conduct Report.
Sitz, sits or sitsit, however you want to say it, are a Finnish (and Nordic) academic student event (table parties), where people eat, drink and sing songs. Sitz are "formal" happenings with a set programme, conference breaks, and specific rules that everyone must obey. Dresscode is according to the theme of the Sitz.
The quality of food and drink is not the point of the event, so don't set your expectations too high. Eat properly before you arrive. You may also bring extra beverage with yourself (depending on the venue).
ESN Uni Turku also organises student parties and gathering to allow everyone in Turku to meet each other and make new friends while having the best of time! These parties range from gatherings such as quiz nights all the way to big club parties that fill the dance floor. Some events are perfect for meeting new people and getting to know Finnish student traditions in a relaxed setting, while others are great if you just want to unwind and have fun after a long week of studying. Our gatherings include
Patch sewing
Friendship nights
Themed Parties
and many more!
Besides our bigger events and trips, we also organise smaller excursions to different parts of Finland. Each semester, we usually take a quick day trip to our sister cities Tampere and Helsinki, where we spend the day exploring local sights, grabbing food together, and enjoying the atmosphere of a new city. It’s a fun way to experience more of Finland without needing to plan anything yourself or stay overnight.
Please note that the destinations and schedules can vary each semester depending on planning and availability, so keep an eye on our announcements for updates!
Not only celebrated by students, but student happenings and events start already in early April, with some student organizations and universities celebrating Vappu for almost a month.
Briefly what to expect:
Events from the beginning of April (parties, sitz, May Day Mayhem, etc.)
Student organizations serving punch at the University Hill
May Day Parade
People, not only current students, wearing their high school graduation caps and lifting them together at the Art Museum Hill
Lifting graduation caps to different statues around the city
Massive picnics, not only for students
Events where you collect stamps on your appro pass by consuming beverages/food, or in some cases visiting places and completing tasks. To attend an Approt, you will need to purchase a ticket prior (they can sell out within seconds), which usually includes an event patch, entry to an afterparty, and in addition you will receive a performance patch depending on the number of stamps collected during the Approt. There are various types of approt, not only those with bars or pubs involved, like culture approt (museums, galleries, etc.), Turku Day Approt (visiting libraries and landmarks, etc.) and Herkkuapprot (cafes, bakeries, etc.).
The biggest Approt in Turku include:
Aurasoudut (September)
Pikkulaskiainen (end of February)
Eerikinkadun Approt (April)
Wappro (on Vappu week in May)
AATU (Aura-river boats, May)
