TURKU DAY AND FIREWORKS on Sunday 18th September
The traditional Turku Day will be celebrated again on Sunday the September 18th. During this day, Turku is offering many possibilities to explore the city. The programme for Turku Day goes on from the morning until the evening. Many shops in the center will be open, museums and art centers offer special programme, lots of them are half the price of usual cost, there are markets, performances, concerts, guided tours, etc.
Some examples about what’s happening on Turku Day:
- Free concert in Vähätori (Between the Cathedral and Brahenkatu), pop/rock/jazz from 11.00 to 16.15
- Myllysilta bridge opening concert - many of you have seen the bridge under construction. Well now it's starting to be ready. There's a big free concert from 3pm to 9pm on this almost ready -bridge. Five Finnish artists, including Negative!
- Gerbera maze with over 5000 gerbera flowers in front of the Turku Cathedral
- Fireworks from Samppalinna hill @ 9pm!
The idea is to get together before the fireworks and head to the best viewing spot in front of the Pharmacy Museum by the river Aura. The whole Turku will be there to watch the fireworks and that's why latecomers miss the best spots!. So, let's meet in front of the Turku Cathedral a bit before 20:30 and leave for the fireworks at 20:30! If you come late, just head for the Pharmacy Museum, which is the old red wooden building opposite the riverboats.
Remember to wrap up in warm clothes!
Hope to see you many on Sunday

PS. Did you notice all those colourful seals around Turku (Hej Hylje)? They will be taken away from the city on Wed (14.9.) - but you can go and see all of them during the weekend at Silja Line terminal (Turku harbor)! Seals will be sold at an auction scheduled for Turku Day (Sunday 18.9.) at 3 pm.
